Our Primary 7 pupils become Playground Buddies during the term before they leave Primary 6. This allows them to become experienced and supported in their roles under the supervision of our PSAs. A rota is drawn up and each P7 pupil tries their hardest to be on duty at their specified time.
The buddies help and support pupils in the front and back playgrounds during breaks and inside the school when we have wet weather. Their roles include organising games, ensuring safe play, helping set out playground toys and alerting PSAs to any accidents children may have which require First Aid.
Buddies also help and support our children with any badge achievements which they can be practising in the playground e.g. our skipping badges and often their input and guidance is a key factor in our younger children gaining their awards.
At the end of a session, the PSAs and pupils consider which of our buddies has made a real difference in the playground over the year and their valuable contribution to school life is recognised at our Awards Assembly in the last week of Term 4.
Our P7 buddies were recognised for their sustained efforts across the year and highlighted especially for their committed, caring and responsible attitude during their time in this role. Our future buddies were awarded for making a great start, and for being excellent role models during their first term as Meiklemill Playground Buddies.
